Who the scheme is for

If you built a life here, this may be for you.

The Windrush Compensation Scheme is open to people of any nationality who settled in the UK before 1988, and their close family members, who were affected by the Windrush scandal. Not sure if it applies? That’s exactly what we’re here for.

Settled before 1988

You came to the UK and made it home before 1988, regardless of your nationality or where you were born.

Close family members

Partners, children and parents of someone affected may also be able to claim in their own right.

Lost work, housing or status

You faced difficulties with a job, a home, benefits, healthcare or travel, because you couldn't prove your right to be here.

Not sure? Still get in touch

You don't need to work out eligibility on your own. Come and talk to us, and we'll help you figure it out with no pressure.

There’s no cost to you at any stage, and speaking to us doesn’t commit you to anything. Everything you share stays confidential.

How we help

We sit with you through every stage.

You won’t be handed a form and left to it. A CAHN advocate walks the whole journey with you, from the first conversation to the moment your claim is in.

Step 1

Check if you qualify

We talk through your history and work out together whether the scheme applies to you.

Step 2

Gather your evidence

We help you find and organise the documents and proof your claim needs.

Step 3

Tell your story

We help you put your experience into words that do it justice, in your voice.

Step 4

Fill in the forms

We complete the application with you, so nothing important is missed.

Step 5

Submit a strong claim

We make sure your claim is complete and ready before it goes to the scheme.

Step 6

Stay with you after

We introduce you to your caseworker and stay reachable if you need us next.
