About Safe Steps

Safe Steps is a free and inclusive sexual health service designed with your needs in mind. We know sexual health is about more than testing  it’s about feeling understood, respected and supported. Our services are confidential, and your information is not shared without your consent (with standard safeguarding exceptions).

 

You can meet us via booking an appointment or visiting on of our hubs:

Support is available regardless of your age, gender identity, disability or relationship status.

Our team provides:

  • HIV and STI education, testing and self-testing kits
  • Confidential sexual health advice and signposting
  • Contraception advice and access to condoms
  • Peer support sessions and community workshops
  • Accompaniment to clinical appointments
  • Therapeutic counselling and wellbeing support
  • Support for people living with HIV to access care and live well
  • Connections to essential services such as food banks and advocacy

 

We bring these services to spaces where you already feel comfortable community centres, places of worship and local venues.

What we can help with

Whatever you need, we’re here without judgement. Our support covers:

Healthy relationships

Everyone deserves relationships that are respectful, consensual and free from coercion. We offer information, peer support and a safe space to talk. If something doesn’t feel right, you’re not alone help and signposting are here.

Reproductive health and contraception

Get clear, judgement-free information and access to contraception, including emergency contraception and longer-acting methods, plus advice after pregnancy or abortion. Your contraception, your choice.

STI testing and prevention

Regular STI testing is normal healthcare  and it’s free and confidential. We offer on-site and self-testing, condoms, and fast routes to treatment. Getting tested early protects you and your community.

HIV prevention and living well with HIV

HIV testing is quick, free and available in the community, at home or in clinic. We can help you understand and access PrEP, and we support people living with HIV to access prompt care and live well.

Community support

Our drop-in sessions include on-site testing, condoms and self-testing kits; essential health checks such as blood pressure and cholesterol; confidential advice; workshops; clinic accompaniment; and referrals. We also offer peer sessions, targeted group education, wellbeing events and information stands.
